al-Einsatzgruppen

All around the world is the remnant evidence of the people who lived there before today. In Egypt, the giant pyramids provide a reminder of the Pharaohs, and the language and religion they represented. In Mexico, more pyramids stand as reminders of the empires that once flourished in Meso-America. The native people of all central American are still there, and while most of the population speaks Spanish, the language of the Conquistadors, millions still speak Nahuatl, the native language of the pre-Conquest era. In England, there is Stonehenge. In France, ancient cave paintings. In Italy, there is a giant catalog of the Roman objects and art. And in Israel, there is the long archeological record of the Jews, which confirms the record written down in the Torah. The Jews have always been in the area called Israel, and their language and culture has been a constant presence, though it has waxed and waned, for four millennia.

The Jews feature prominently in Roman history and the Roman and Jewish records on the cataclysm of 70 A.D. are not in dispute. The Jews fomented a rebellion that is hinted at in the Christian Bible, and the Romans did what they did to all societies that defied them. Legions descended on the Jews and destroyed their cities, including Jerusalem. They toppled Solomon’s Temple, which was the center of Jewish religious life, and dispersed the surviving Jews to the four winds.

Some of the survivors went east to Persia and Mesopotamia. Some went south and east, into Egypt where they had been slaves a few generations earlier. Many went to other places in the Roman empire, and then, over the succeeding generations, further north, into Germany and Poland. The Jews hung on in these societies, learned the local language, and in many instances, were integrated with the local population and ceased to be Jews. In other instances, they flourished in the cities and developed skills that would make them valuable. They became tailers and bankers and bakers. They built synagogues, staffed them with rabbis, and practiced their religion, but over these many hundreds of years, they often were on the run because in every community where they were dispersed but did not cease to be Jews, they were held in suspicion, and they were often attacked and killed. The language of Jewish persecution was developed in this long period. Words like ‘pogrom,’ concepts like a ‘blood libel,’ and the overall idea of antisemitism, all grew from the experience of the Jews in every nation of Europe. There were Jews still in what had been Israel, but the area was controlled by the Romans, and then the newly minted Muslims, for a while it was a Crusader state, controlled by Christians, and then it went back to the Muslims who controlled the territory until 1918, when the British took control.

Those many centuries of running, of living close to the edge, came to an end in most of Europe in the period of Nazi rule. Adolf Hitler was in power in Germany for 12 years, from 1933 to 1945, and he started the wars that let loose the furies of Jew hatred that prompted thousands of Europeans to kills whole families of Jews that had lived in the same communities for hundreds of years. Six million dead Jews later, after the Nazis and their willing collaborators across Europe had killed whole Jewish family trees, the Holocaust came to an end when the Soviet Army came across the killing centers of Eastern Europe, and the combined British, American, and Canadian militaries came across the killing centers in the West.

We often associate the Holocaust with these industrialized murder centers because they were so horrific, and their names have become so well known. Places such as Auschwitz, Dachau, Treblinka and many more, ring down through the ages. These camps had fixed facilities and death showers and massive crematoria. But not so well remembered are the mobile killing squads that went into Jewish communities and killed Jews house to house, up close, with guns, batons, knives, and fire. These mobile death squads were responsible for at least a third of all the Jewish murders, and they had a name: Einsatzgruppen, which is German for ‘deployment groups.’

From 1942 to 1945, the several Einsatzgruppe divisions and their willing Polish and Ukrainian accomplices did exactly what the Hamas Nazis recently did to Jews; they went house to house killing, up close, every Jew they could find. For the Nazis, even those who only had one Jewish grandparent were Jewish enough to be killed. The mobile death squads and the fixed murder camps are what sums up the Holocaust. It was prompted by a Jew hatred that had been incubating for a long time, and it was stunningly and shockingly effective.

It was these many millions of murders that prompted the creation of the modern state of Israel in 1948. The British ponied up the land, and knowing how the Arabs were about Jews, they offered a two-state solution right then and there. The surviving Jews and the Jews still living in the area jumped at the chance to finally have a Jewish homeland to retreat or return to, but the Arab states refused to establish anything alongside of the Jews, because they, like their Hamas decedents, hate Jews with the same furious intensity as the Nazis and the Einsatzgruppen legions, and they have been calling for the final solution of the Jewish question in the area the Romans called Palestine ever since.

And so here we are. The actions of the Hamas death squads from Oct 6, 2023, are exactly like those operated by the Germans from 1942 to 1945. The Hamas killers went house to house, killing all they found. There were no rules of warfare to their slaughter. They showed the same Nazi habit of stripping the women naked as a form or humiliation before murdering them. They burned homes and didn’t distinguish between adults and children. They had, as a goal, only the murder of Jews. They had to know what they were doing would prompt a massive response, but they did it anyway. The Nazis accelerated their Jew killing after the defeat at Stalingrad because they knew they were going to lose the war, and they wanted to kill the Jews while they still had the chance.

There are just a few differences between the Hamas killers and the Nazi death squads.

First, the Einsatzgruppen leadership was highly educated. There were many PhDs in their ranks, unlike the Hamas leaders or minions, who are shockingly ignorant. And that gets to the second big difference, which is about responsibility. We hold Germans responsible because we perceive them as highly capable. The Nuremberg trials were formal hearings in which the Nazi leadership, including many Einsatzgruppen commanders, were called to court, found guilty, and hung. No such calls to hold the Hamas leadership to account are in evidence among their many millions of supporters in the West including in the US Congress. They are all held to be victims of Jewish atrocities, including the original atrocity of forming the state of Israel in 1948. The people formerly known as Arabs who lived in British Palestine, now called Palestinians, are like children, and unable to restrain themselves or be held to a standard that would disallow a repeat of the Holocaust. The progressive left has perfected the victimology excuse, and now such excuses extend to death squads hunting down Jews.

The many Arab and Persian nations in the vicinity of tiny Israel have launched multiple wars against country, and there have been terror attacks in Israel for eight decades now. There have been many deadly days for the Jews in Israel, but none quite so deadly as Oct 6, 2023. The Jewish state was created specifically to prevent this occurrence, and so it is hard to see how the Jews will not respond with every bit of power at their command. We will see if the impulse to survive, so evident after the Holocaust, is still in the Jewish spirit in the land of their ancestors.

It is not inevitable that the Jews will survive. What we can now conclude, without any reservation, is that the Jew-hating spirit of the Nazis is still with us, it is embedded in the form of the Palestinian cause, and those Nazis have millions of supporters in the West, including the United States, and in the US Congress. I have precious little doubt that the haters would kill all seven million Jews in Israel if they could, (that’s who lives between the Jordan river and the sea) and they would gladly move on to people just like me when they were done. The Islamic fascists must be destroyed, and their supporters driven from civilized society. The Jews are the canary in the coalmine today as they have always been, and they cannot be allowed to perish from this earth.

Israeli media reported that the couple had been attending a dance music festival in the desert when militants overran the area.
