I have photographed many of the sporting events I covered as a reporter, often working under difficult conditions: fast-moving action, unpredictable subjects, poor lighting, crowded venues, and only a fraction of a second to capture the right moment.
But sports photography is ultimately about more than the competition. It is about people. A strong image might capture an athlete’s concentration before the action, the force and intensity of competition, the exhaustion that follows, or the quiet emotion of victory and defeat. As with every form of photography, you must look beyond the obvious action and find the human story within each image..
